HERTFORDSHIRE
About Hertfordshire
Hertfordshire covers 634 square miles of land (164,205 hectare) of which around 324 square miles of land (84,000 hectare) belongs to our greenbelt, meaning our forests and fields – the countryside. There are 10 districts of Hertfordshire; North Hertfordshire, Stevenage, East Hertfordshire, Dacorum, City of St Albans, Welwyn Hatfield, Broxbourne, Three Rivers, Watford and Hertsmere that are referred to as major hotspots for our Big Cats. The map above of Hertfordshire highlights some of the areas we have received sighting reports from.
Sightings of wild Big Cats have been reported in and around Hertfordshire for many decades. The majority of these
reports are of black leopards (panther), puma and lynx type wild Cats.
